Douglas Ronald Van Tassel (B: 1952-07-21) is the son of Ronald & Gwendolyn (Shirley) Van Tassel. He was born in Digby, N.S. and received his early education there. He enjoyed sports and took part in track & field, soccer & hockey (playing goal like his two brothers). Following high school he attended the College of Graphic Sciences in Lawrencetown, N.S.Douglas started as a teenager pitching fish from the holds of fishing boats and went on to work on scallop boats, fishdraggers & lobster boats. He is presently working in the fishing industry on a fishdragger out of Little River, N.S. Douglas was a volunteer fireman with the Digby Fire Department for many years.
He married Janet Marie Handspiker (B:1953-12-31) daughter of Osborne & Jennie Handspiker (nee Wagner) at Digby, N.S. on 1975-12-03 and they have three children, Douglas RonaldVan Tassel Jr. (B:1974-02-16), Michele Lee Van Tassel (B:1975-08-29) & Joseph Stephen Van Tassel (B:1979-04-10) To (1996-05-09).
He is taking after his father as an accomplished drawer and has carved numerous figures.
