Ronald Eugene Van Tassel


1919-12-17 To 1979-11-30
Ronald Eugene Van Tassel was the son of Stephen John & Maria Elizabeth Van Tassel and the youngest of 10 children. He was known as "Stevie" or "Steve" most of his life growing up in Digby, Nova Scotia where he enjoyed baseball, bowling, hunting & fishing and started wood carving with a jack-knife at an early age . He enjoyed the outdoors and walked a great deal until he obtained his first vehicle in 1965. He served during WWll in Italy, France & Germany. After the War he returned to Digby where he was stationed as a guard at CFB Cornwallis, Deep Brook, N.S. Following his release from the army he was employed as a meatcutter and with the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission becoming Assistant Manager for several years prior to his death.He married Gwendolyn Shirley Baxter (B:1927-07-23) daughter of Harry Ashton & Margaret Ivy (McCullough) Baxter of Digby on 1947-01-30 and they had three boys, Brian Eugene Van Tassel (B: 1947-08-23), Randall Stephen Van Tassel (B: 1949-12-18) & Douglas Ronald Van Tassel (B:1952-07-21).

Stevie was a very handsome man..I had forgotten that he served in the military but seeing these pictures brought back the times that when 'Mom' (Shirl) shared the pics with me...she was so proud of 'Dad' he was such a great guy and both treated me, Larry and Tara like family. Loved them so much!
